Giggle

Want to boost immunity? Relieve stress? Try this one simple trick.

Would you like to increase your immunity and relieve stress? And do both at the same time?

This one simple act is all you need:

Giggle!

Yes, you heard me right, giggle.

When was the last time you giggled?

Did you know there is nothing wrong with giggling?

It’ll make you feel better, I promise.

Science has shown that giggling is a great way to relieve stress!

This is just a snippet I saw in a Mayo Clinic article (http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/stress-management/in-depth/stress-relief/art-20044456:

‘Short-term benefits

A good laugh has great short-term effects. When you start to laugh, it doesn’t just lighten your load mentally, it actually induces physical changes in your body. Laughter can:

  • Stimulate many organs.Laughter enhances your intake of oxygen-rich air, stimulates your heart, lungs and muscles, and increases the endorphins that are released by your brain.
  • Activate and relieve your stress response.A rollicking laugh fires up and then cools down your stress response, and it can increase your heart rate and blood pressure. The result? A good, relaxed feeling.
  • Soothe tension.Laughter can also stimulate circulation and aid muscle relaxation, both of which can help reduce some of the physical symptoms of stress.’

Our lives are so hectic. From the busy running around all day to the possible chaos at home, we rarely find moments when we can giggle.

Now, understandably, if you have a baby/toddler in your midst it may be quite easy. I know personally, I have giggled more since having my little one than ever before. But that certainly doesn’t mean that if you don’t have kids you can’t get a daily dose of giggling in!

Try it this week. No need to force it though. Read the comics section in the newspaper, go online and find a humorous story, get on Pinterest and look up humor. You’re bound to find something that will make you giggle.

Let yourself feel like a kid again. If you have kids, a significant other, pets or one or a few great friends share something funny and let yourselves go wild with giggles. You may feel exhausted afterwards, your stomach may even hurt a bit but you’ll feel like a whole new you!!!

So go ahead, giggle – I give you permission 🙂
