Respect

R-E-S-P-E-C-T……… thinking of a song yet 🙂

O.k., so that’s not what this post is about 🙂 but it’s a catching tune huh?

Respect: A very touchy subject for a lot of people, right?

Between children and their parents, family members in general, co-workers, employees and their bosses, and everyone everyday.

How respectful are you? Do you forget to be respectful?

Do you expect others to be respectful of you? Why? Because you’re older, you’re in a position of power.

Are you respectful to those you expect respect from?

These are all such loaded questions.

Did you know that respect doesn’t have to be a two-way street? That you can be respectful to those who aren’t respectful to you?

Yes, it may not be fair but taking the high road is always a good choice!

I, personal, expect respect! And I also try my hardest to be respectful to everyone around me right off the bat.

Is that to say I’ve never been disrespectful? Well, I am human and a daughter so of course I have been but I’d like to think not often.

In fact, respect has always been something very important to me. I feel like it encompasses so many different things. Like being nice, honest, trustworthy, dependable, just to name a few!

And of course, not just to each other but also to ourselves.

What do they say? If you don’t respect yourself no one else will.

Try to remember each day to respect yourself and to respect those around you.

It may not be easy, especially depending on the type of day you’re having. But if you can retain a small resemblance of respect to each and every person you meet, including yourself 🙂 you’ll be on your way to having and giving a better day.

What does Respect mean to you? Do you try to remember to be respectful?

  1. I respect people regardless of their status and I also expect others to the same to me but we can’t control other people’s behavior. This post reminds us not to forget about how to be respectful

  2. It’s interesting the lack of respect some people seem to have these days. I wonder why this is? When did it start? How can we get people learning to respect each other again? Great post!

  3. I love this! Our society is definitely lacking in respect! One thing I’m working on, but I’m not great at yet, is treating people kindly even when they treat me poorly.

  4. I believe I’m always respectful. And I’m a teacher, so many times I have to show respect when I’m not getting it in return!

  5. Oh, it is very hard to be respectful to someone who is not the same toward you. However, I’ve learned that we are to respect others regardless of what we think of them as a person.

  6. I agree. I expect respect, but I still try to be respectful of others, even if/when I don’t receive it. And yes, this can be challenging!

  7. Some would say that Respect is earned but I think you should always be respectful and kind. Lead by example …

  8. In a team respect is important regardless of your level. Good post!
