This post, 10 Of The Best Gifts For Four-Year-Olds, was originally published in October 2018 and is being completely updated.

When my little guy was getting ready to turn four, I’d seen some pretty cool toys out there that I’d love to get him.

Truth be told, most of these items we had had for a while.

We have a tendency to get toys, games, learning tools that are a bit older than he is, which allows him to grow into them.

I’ve definitely seen a growing interest in using them, playing with them and understanding them.

Let’s start with the one we don’t have 🙂

The Wonder Lab:

Have you seen this? Do you have it?

I think this wonder lab would be so great!!! Not only does it come with test tubs to make fun experiments and pieces to make a ball maze, but it also has cards with experiments on them to follow along and learn from! And just in case you’re wondering and my dad, a scientist himself would be happy to see, it comes with lab (safety?) goggles for the kids to learn about safety too!!

It’s not on the cheap side so I’ll be seeing if I can fit it into my budget but I think I’d have fun with this one too. 😉

Work Bench

Do you have a little one who loves to build things? Then this work bench is the perfect addition.

It comes with everything you need to start building spaceships, race cars, birdhouses and more!

It comes with a play saw, hammer, screws, nails and an instruction manual to help you build.

Lincoln Logs

I don’t know about you but I love Lincoln Logs. And this set comes in a 100th Anniversary tin. Complete with diagrams and instructions to help you get started with the Lincoln Log experience 🙂

Zingo

We love this game so much!!! It has become part of our nightly routine!

If you’ve never heard of it, let alone never had the pleasure of playing it you’re in for a treat!!

Like I mentioned in the beginning we’ve had some of these toys/games for awhile and this would be one of them, not only that but it states that it’s for 4 and up but that didn’t stop us 🙂

Now, with that being said, we don’t exactly play it correctly 🙂 We’ve modified it to fit his ‘skill’ level.

For example: The idea is to fill your board with the tiles and to call out those tiles when they show up. Whoever fills their board first wins. He is normally the keeper of the tiles and so whomever he wants to give the tiles to gets the tiles, after he gets first dibs 🙂 You would think with him getting first dibs he’d always win, well, not the case. Which is important, so that he learns it’s o.k. to lose!

We have other alternatives too but I won’t get into them here. Just know there are several ways to modify the game to make it enjoyable for everyone!

Floor Puzzle

I am a puzzle lover. One day I am going to invest in puzzle organizer so I’ll always have one at the ready.

With that being said, I so want my little guy to love puzzles so it can be an activity we can enjoy together.

And this floor puzzle with larger pieces has become a great stepping stone for that to happen.

He loves putting it together. The pieces are a nice size so not only is it ‘easier’ to see the pictures but it’s easier for smaller hands to pick up and move around.

I’ve seen some other options too to look into: Dinosaur Pals, Farm Mania, Jungle Juniors, Ballet Beauties, Once Upon A Time just to name a few.

Leap Frog

If you’re looking for a screen free alternative to the tablet or iPad then this Leap Frog is your next best thing!

My son’s Godmother gifted this to us a few years ago and she continues to send us the additional books for birthdays or holidays 🙂

They have so many options to choose from, like numbers, letters and sharing, your child won’t get bored. Not only that but it will grow with them into their first grade days.

Leap Frog System.

And there you have it, with a little bonus 🙂 I hope you find something that will suit your four year old!

Do you already have some of these at home? Which gift do you think your four-year-old would want? Please share with us in the comment below!!! Thanks!
