This post, The Best No-Bake Dessert You’ll Ever Make, was originally published in 2019 and has been completely updated in December 2021.

So, I’m not sure where we learned this recipe from but I can tell you from some research that it’s a version of the Watergate Salad people know and love.

In case you’ve never heard of Watergate Salad, it’s a dessert made from pistachio pudding mix, pineapple, marshmallows, walnuts, and whipped topping.

Our version actually only has two ingredients in common with the Watergate.

So, for lack of a better title, we simply call it green stuff, well, because it’s green. (But not because of pistachio!)

It’s super simple and by far one of the best desserts you’ll ever make let alone eat!!!!

And it’s perfect for so many different occasions you can’t go wrong.

Since it’s green it can easily be a holiday dessert.

Think St. Patrick’s Day or Christmas.

Because it’s light and a cold dish it’s perfect for any summer get-togethers.

And since it’s such a simple and quick dessert to make it’s great for pot lucks or those last-minute parties.

The Best No-Bake Dessert for Kids

That’s right, it’s also one of the best no-bake desserts for kids out there!

There are, of course, several variations of this one that I will share, including healthier.

But let’s start with the basics.

Our green stuff only uses four (4) ingredients :

  • cool whip
  • pineapple
  • cottage cheese
  • lime jello

Delicious desserts don’t have to be hard to make!

Tweet this!

Don’t say it, ’cause I know you might be thinking it!

That doesn’t sound good – how could those go together?

But, they do all go together and it’s delicious.

Unless you utterly despise one of these ingredients on their own, and even then, I dare you to still try it!

So, like I said, this recipe can be made healthier or not depending on your wants or needs.

There are lite, no-fat, low-fat, low-sugar versions of all or most of the individual ingredients.

Not only that, but you could always use another color/flavor of jello mix for the season.

Think strawberry/red for Christmas, July 4th or use less mix so that it’s more pinkish for Easter. Your options are endless!

Assembling your No-Bake Dessert

O.k, so are you ready to put it all together?

It’s a bit difficult so make sure you follow the directions.

Pour everything into a bowl and mix.

And then, wait that’s it. Did you get that 😉

Let me repeat it.

Pour everything into a bowl and mix.

Okay, okay….so it’s not difficult. 😉

It’s actually one of the simplest, easiest, fastest desserts you could ever make!

In fact, it’s such an easy no-bake dessert recipe with few ingredients, why wouldn’t you try it?

Now, there is one little caveat. You will want to drain the pineapple as much as you can or else it will make the whole dish runny.

But, it doesn’t ruin the taste just the firmness of it.

  1. I’d forgotten about the easy dessert. I haven’t had it in years but will buy ingredients and have it for Sunday dessert. I remember LOVING this. Thanks.
