Courtesy - Thought for the Every Day. What does it mean to be courteous? Are you courteous?
The small courtesies sweeten life; the greater ennoble it. - Christian Nestell Bovee. Are you courteous? #courtesy #respect
Courtesy

To be courteous.

Something we don’t think about very often right? Or at least not in these terms. We might think of it in terms of respect or maybe chivalry?

I even thought, what exactly is it to be courteous?  It’s so close to respect when you initially think about it.

So I decided to look it up 🙂

Here’s what Dictionary.com states:

  1. excellence of manners or social conduct; polite behavior.
    2. a courteous, respectful, or considerate act or expression.
To be courteous, to me, means things like holding the door open for someone and letting them go through first. Or maybe helping someone reach something on a top shelf, bottom shelf or how about saying excuse me when you walk in front of someone when passing through.
For that matter, how about saying excuse me in other circumstances, like when you burp? Do you? I was raised to say excuse me when I burp, even when I yawn. Were you raised that way? For those of you who are parents, are you raising your children to do this? If so, do you also say excuse me when you burp or yawn, especially in front of your kids?

The small courtesies sweeten life; the greater ennoble it.

I love this quote because I think it sums it up. The littlest of courtesies will do wonders in a persons life, imagine what a  bigger courtesy will do for someone in their day 🙂
