Healthier Snacks

Here are some delicious snacks, that yes, might take some time to love but they are great!

  • Bell peppers
  • Almonds
  • Carrots
  • Celery with natural peanut butter
  • Greek yogurt
  • Cottage cheese

Cut Meals in Half

Another way to help you start eating healthy is to simply cut your meals in half.

Depending on how you eat at home you may not need to do this but when you’re out, having a meal, this suggestion will help in the long run.

We all know that restaurants, even small mom and pop shops, will give out extra-large portions.

Some places are more than happy to wrap up half your meal before it even gets to the table so you don’t have to do any work at all.

Otherwise, try your best to get into the habit of cutting your meal in half and only enjoying the one half.

Remind yourself, you want enough left over to enjoy it again, to help keep you from eating the ‘saved’ half!

Swap out Foods

Swapping out foods can be an extremely easy way to start eating healthy.

This one can take a little bit of time to get used to too but start with a small swap and keep experimenting.

For example, tonight we had pork chops and mashed cauliflower (instead of mashed potatoes).

So, maybe you don’t need to jump straight to cauliflower but how about getting real potatoes instead of the boxed kind?

If you already eat whole foods (not processed/boxed foods), try to work on cutting down the toppings.

And if you’re already at this point then yes, lol, it’s time to experiment with mashed cauliflower.

We make it pretty much like regular mashed potatoes.

Cut the cauliflower up and place it in some water on the stove.

Boil it until the cauliflower is soft enough to break apart easily.

Drain as much of the water as possible, then mash and add some butter and seasonings.

I’ll admit, I still love my potato in all its forms but tonight’s mashed cauliflower really hit the spot too!

Another swap, to get your mind thinking, is to use yogurt (Greek is maybe better than plain since it’s creamier) in place of sour cream!

I’ve found that a lot of the times I can’t even tell the difference but it’s so much healthier for you!

One Meal at a Time

I know I’m constantly saying this, and believe me when I tell you, there are days when I’m constantly telling myself:

Take it one day at a time, one meal at a time, one moment at a time.

It’s hard when you’re thinking about the end game, right?

But if you can focus on the present, and be present it helps!

Splurge

I know, I know, we’re talking about how to start eating healthy and now I’m going to tell you to splurge.

Well, yes.

Do you know why?

Because I believe in moderation!

I believe that you can still have that pizza or ice cream and not derail all your hard work.

As long as you don’t keep eating that stuff 🙂

Once a week, for special occasions, treat yourself.

Then the rest of the time is eating healthier!

Plus, remember how I told you to take one meal, moment, day at a time?

Well, if you know you’re getting to splurge in another day or at the end of the week, it can help you push through.

And believe me, that splurge will be even better 🙂

Not only that, you might just find that healthier foods start tasting better than the splurges!

And there you have it.
