Praise

Something your hear about from time to time right?

And if you’re religious it’s probably something you think about more often.

But today, I’m not talking about praise in the religious sense.

I’m talking about thinking about how much we praise our children, friends, loved ones.

How about yourself?

Yup, you heard me right!

Do you ever praise yourself?

Now, I’m not talking about bragging.

Here’s the first definition of Praise through Merriam-Webster:
-to express a favorable judgment of

Do you ever remind yourself of what a great job you’re doing? Or do you constantly beat yourself up over every little thing?

Well, if you said you beat yourself up more, than you’re like most of us!

It’s not always easy to thinking of the positive but I’d like to encourage you to try!

The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.
∼Oprah Winfrey

At the end of the day, sometime before you head off to bed, or once you’re in bed and settling in, think about what went well that day.

Now, I want you to do something else too!

Grab a notebook and pen or your favorite writing device, so you can write those thoughts down.

“We would worry less if we praised more. Thanksgiving is the enemy of discontent and dissatisfaction.”
― H.A. Ironside

This will accomplish a couple of things.

One – it will get the thoughts out of your mind and since they are written down you won’t forget them.

Two – you will always have the list to go back to whenever you need a little inspiration!

“When virtues are pointed out first, flaws seem less insurmountable.”
― Judith Martin

And just in case you’re feeling stuck and feel like everything went wrong in your day, little things count too!

We get caught up too often about the big things, right? Or maybe comparing ourselves to others?

Try to let those things go, we think about them enough!

Let’s think:

I slept one minute later than usual (even though I’m still super tired :)).

I heard my favorite song, or a great song I haven’t heard in so long.

My children love me (even if it’s hard to tell sometimes).

See where I’m going with this?

The list is endless but I don’t want you to get stressed about this.

If you can only think of one that’s an awesome start!

Try for three (3) each night and I promise you it will get easier the more you do it!

And here’s a last thought for you:

I praise loudly. I blame softly.
∼Catherine the Great

  1. Definitely agree this is something we need to do more often, but it’s important too not to offer empty praise. People will know when you’re not being genuine and might resent you (even if your praise was offered with good intentions).

  2. Love this. That verse that says “love others as you love yourself”…I’ve felt conviction on that. That may be the problem-I AM loving others as I love myself. I’m critical of others because I’m critical of myself. I’m definitely gonna be shooting myself some praises today! Thanks!

  3. definitely agree ! great post.

  4. Definitely agree! Nice one dear! 🙂

  5. So true. You can never go wrong putting niceness out into the world, can you?

  6. Wow this is beautiful! Have definitely felt all the feelings reading this!
